The program emphasizes mostly on-water rowing with some erg work incorporated to support overall conditioning and development.
FREE EVENT!
National Learn to Row Day
Saturday, May 30, 2026
Are you curious about how to row one of those long boats you see on the Connecticut River in Middletown? Are you considering joining Central Connecticut Rowing but not sure if you will like it? Want to get a feeling for what rowing is before committing to a class?
This free event offers each participant a brief overview of rowing, a chance to learn a little technique on a rowing machine, see our boathouse and go out in an 8-person boat for a brief row on the river.
NEW DATES!
Outdoor Rowing Fitness
Wed / Fri evenings
Jun 3 to Jun 26, 2026
Come learn or improve your rowing technique and general fitness with outdoor classes by the river! Our rowing coach will help you build core, arm and leg muscle strength and work on rowing technique (on rowing machines) and can set you up for rowing on the
river, in case that also interests you as well.
About Us
Central Connecticut Rowing (CCR) is a nonprofit rowing club based in Middletown, Connecticut. Our mission is to promote the sport of rowing and grow a diverse, inclusive rowing community across Middletown and the state.
We offer programs on the scenic Connecticut River, launching from the John K. Smith Boathouse in Middletown. All programs are run in partnership with the Middletown Recreation Department and are open to participants ages 13 and up. Some programs require prior experience.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced rower, we offer opportunities for both recreational and competitive rowing. Participants train and race in four- and eight-person rowing shells.
Coxswains Wanted!
We are always looking for experienced coxswains, and we can also train anyone that may be interested in this position.
