Summer sweep rowing is open to beginners through experienced rowers.This program offers the ability for all levels to improve and build on their present rowing skills and fitness. We will do a combination of mostly on-water rowing but some erg work will also be a part of the class. Occasional rotation in a launch is likely. Rain dates will be an alternate evening or weekend morning.
Please wear tight-fitting shorts or leggings and sneakers. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses are recommended along with a reusable water bottle and a yoga mat.
NEW! Swim Test
All new on-water participants must pass a swim test or provide a signed swim test waiver. Download swim waiver below & have
signed by a certified lifeguard.
The Swim Test will be offered on Wednesday Evening, June 15, 2022 at Middletown High School at time slots between 5:15 and 6:45 pm
You must register for the test on the Recreation Dept site. If you look at the bottom of the rowing page, there are slots for registration.
Middletown High School is located at 200 LaRosa Lane. To enter pool, drive to the right of the school and around back. Enter the building back by the football field.

Come learn or improve your rowing technique and general fitness with outdoor classes by the river! Our rowing coach will help you build core, arm and leg muscle strength and work on rowing technique (on rowing machines) and can set you up for rowing on the
river, in case that also interests you as well.
Rowing machines will be outside. Please wear stretchy shorts/leggings, tops that do not hang below hips, and sneakers. Baggy clothing can get caught in the seat rollers. Please bring your own yoga or exercise mat and a reusable water bottle. See you by
the Connecticut River!

Are you curious about how to row one of those long boats you see on the Connecticut River in Middletown? Are you considering joining Central Connecticut Rowing but not sure if you will like it? Want to get a feeling for what rowing is before committing to a class?
June 4 is the day for you!
This free event offers each participant a brief overview of rowing, a chance to learn a little technique on a rowing machine, see our boathouse and go out in an 8-person boat for a brief row on the river.
Please wear tight fitting shorts or leggings and sneakers. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses are recommended along with a reusable water bottle.
Please bring a signed Learn to Row waiver to the event. (Or sign one at the event). Waiver form available in Registration section. Pre-Registration is suggested.
Virtual Rowing Fitness & Conditioning Classes

Three sessions per week:

Are you a rower looking to stay active during our time off the water OR just interested in getting in shape? Join our Central Connecticut Rowing Zoom Fitness Classes, held through the Middletown Recreation Department!
Each hour-long session will have a combination of stretching, body-weight exercises and cardio to keep you fit during the winter. A rowing machine or another piece of cardio equipment is suggested, but not necessary, to take part in this class. Stay connected to other like-minded people and meet new ones as we gear up for rowing on the river next year or more on-land classes BY the river!
To participate you must preregister!

Fall sweep rowing is open to advanced beginner through experienced (15 - 99). You must have completed the novice rowing program or a comparable class. This program offers the ability for all levels to improve and build on their present rowing skills and fitness.
Fall offers the opportunity for more experienced rowers (ages 21+) to race in up to 3 regattas** if interested.
Competitive rowers must expect to come to a minimum of 2/3 practices per week. The head coach can help determine if you are at a level to race.
As it gets darker earlier in the fall, we will come off the water at dusk and then do a variety of fitness, stretching and yoga, all key to aspects to being a strong rower. Please bring a yoga mat and sneakers to every practice and a reusable water bottle.
CCR rows in Fours and Eights.
CCR adheres to covid-safe practices. If you are not vaccinated you will need to wear a mask.
* All on-water rowers must have or had a swim test waiver filled out this year to participate.
**Experienced rowers interested in racing will incur additional fees for regattas.
PLEASE NOTE: occasional Sat. races may require rescheduling of practices because of conflict!
